In this “Introduction to Watercolors” class, Donna Anastasi will introduce the students to materials and techniques used in watercolor painting.  

***This week we will continue to work on painting beautiful sun kissed geraniums. 

Time:1:00 pm - 3:00 pm.   Every Wednsday
Fee: $25 per session, materials included
         $12 for home school students age 10-18
Location: Sonoran Arts League Center for the Arts, Stagecoach Village.

Jury Day 2019 - Timeline 
Saturday, April 6, 2018,   9:00 pm – 3:00 p.m.
 
New Venue for Jury Day:  Sonoran Arts League Center for the Arts, 7100 E. Cave Creek Road #144 (in Stagecoach Village), Cave Creek, AZ  85331   480-575-6624.
 
  • 9:00 – 10:00 a.m.  Artists deliver artwork.  DON’T BE LATE, doors locked promptly at 10:05 a.m.!
  • 10:30 - 1:30 p.m. Jury process takes place.
  • 2:00 - 3:00 p.m.  Artists pick up artwork.  (Please don’t be early; you will not receive your work until    DON’T BE LATE; the deadline is 3:00 p.m.)

To assist League members for preparation, the League has provided additional opportunities:  
  • Submission reviews and art critique:  The League has added additional support for the jury process.  On Monday, March 4 at 11:30am at the Center for the Arts, you may register to attend a “Submission Review and Art Critique”. RSVP through the League office at 480-575-6624.
  • General Meetings on Monday, March 11 at 4pm.  One hour prior to the start of the General Meetings, the jury committee will have a table set up for questions, additional information and key dates.
 
 
“Pop-Up Show” Process and Overview:
 
Each participating artist may choose to continue in the April “Pop-Up Show”.
The Show will hang for three weeks (April 6 – 29) in the Center for the Arts.  All artwork in the show must be for sale.  Upon any sale, the artist is notified and may replace for a similar piece of art.  (please note: a 25% commission will be paid to the League).
 
Artist Opening Reception:  On Friday, April 12 (4pm – 7pm) the League will host an Opening Reception.

The Desert Foothills Gallery, located at 38443 N Schoolhouse Rd., Cave Creek, Arizona will be the site of the 2019 Emerging Artist Show exhibiting works by artists residing in Arizona. The exhibition will run from May 9, 2019 to June 20, 2019.
Eligibility:

Open to all Sonoran Arts League member and other artists who reside in the state of Arizona who meet the criteria for an "Emerging Artist"
  • Definition; emerging is to come forth into view or notice, to come to maturity.
  • This could include beginning artists, art students, or artists exploring new media who fee that their work is ready to be seen by a wider audience.
  • All artwork submitted must be available for sale.
Key Dates:
  • Submission Timeframe: April 6, 2019 to May 1, 2019
  • Notice of Acceptance (via email): May 6, 2019
  • Artwork Delivery Date: Thursday, May 9, 2019 between 9:30 am and 10:30 am at the Desert Foothills Gallery inside the Desert Foothills Library
  • Show Date: May 9, 2019 to June 20, 2019
  • Artist Reception: Saturday, May 18, 2019 from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm
  • Pick Up Unsold Artwork: Thursday, June 20, 2019 from 9:15 am to 10:00 am
Note: If you are unable to drop off and pick up your artwork on the designated dates it is your responsibility to arrange with someone else to do so.

The Sonoran Arts League is proud to request up to five (5) pieces of artwork, from artist members who create artwork of the human body/spirit, animals, marine life and all creatures (animal and figurative) for our “All Creatures Great and Small” Show at the Center for the Arts. 
 
This monthly “Pop-Up Show” will run from May 31-July 1, 2019.  The show is open to Sonoran Arts League members only and all artwork must be for sale.    
 
Show Overview:  The show is open to artists working in a variety of techniques (2-D and 3-D, including jewelry, photography, sculptures, mixed media, etc.).                                                                The Sonoran Arts League will be provide gallery from May 31-July 1, 2019.

Lecture Presentation for The Desert Foothills Gallery 2019 Retrospective Exhibit Featuring the artwork of Ann Otis and Richard Mocco

Thursday, April 25, 2019 - 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm (The gallery is located in the Desert Foothills Library 38443 North Schoolhouse Road, Cave Creek, AZ)

Richard Mocco and Ann Otis were highly trained and very respected local artists. This lecture presentation will include:

  • Justine Waldi demonstrating Viscosity printing. 
  • Marty Gibson, Katalin Ehling and Judy Bruce will discuss other printmaking processes and interesting stories about Ann's life.
  • Patrick O'Grady and other old-time Creekers will discuss Richard Mocco and his sculpture, painting, drawing, jewelry and stories of his life.
