Make a bright and colorful vase or candle holder.

 

Instructor: Kathleen Nelson

 

Using an 8 x 8 inch sheet of clear glass and various shades of glass frit (ground glass) you will create a beautiful vase to grace your table or window sill.  In this 1.5 hour class you will chose colors of frit and create a design for your vase.  Your piece will be taken to the kiln and fired.  Once the piece has been fused it will be slumped over a mold to make the vase.  The finished piece will be returned to you the next week 


Class Fee: $40
Materials Fee: $10

Skill Level: Beginner, Intermediate

Age Limit: Minimum age of 12. Ages 12-17 ok, but must be accompanied by parent or guardian.

Call for Art

Kiwanis Club of Carefree – 2021 Wine Bottle Label Competition

Submission Deadline: March 31, 2021


 

The Kiwanis Club of Carefree in partnership with the Sonoran Arts League, is seeking art submissions for its third annual wine label competition. The winning artwork image will be displayed on 300 bottles of wine and the artist will receive a $400 cash prize. The opportunity is open to Sonoran Arts League members only.
 
THEME: Kindred Spirits - like-minded spirits with whom an instant connection of love and understanding is mutually experienced. Kindred spirits can be found between romantic partners, a parent and child, a cowboy and his horse, even a child and their dog, any relationship that shares a unique energy while existing in harmony.
 
Guidelines:
  • Artists must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Artists may submit up to 3 pieces for consideration.
  • All work must be original, unsold work, & the artist must own the sole copyright to art.
  • Entry images should be submitted (final vector file or jpg) 300 dpi or higher
  • Entries should be an image only.  Please do not use words, letters or any writing other than your signature on the artwork.
  • Artwork must by photographed without mats or frame.
  • 2021 release will be a white blend wine in a tall, clear bottle. The background color of the label and the capsule color will be determined to complement the art and bottle.
 
All submissions are processed online, to submit scroll to the bottom of this page and click 'Register for this Event'. If you need assistance submitting your artwork to be judged, please contact the Sonoran Arts League office at 480-575-6624.     
 
Important Dates:
Application Deadline: Wednesday, March 21, 2021
Artist Notification: Friday, April 9, 2021
Unveiling Ceremony: Wednesday, September 15, 2021
 
Accepted Media: The artwork can be in any two-dimensional medium that is then photographed. The entry should be an image only, do not use words, letters or any writing other than your signature on the artwork

Call Fees: Free to Sonoran Arts League Members. 

Winning Artist Award & Recognition
  • Artist’s name, artwork, and bio will have the honor of being featured on the label of the 2021 Kiwanis Private Label Wine.
  • Artist will receive $400 cash prize.
  • Artist and artwork will be announced via a press release.
  • Artist and artwork will be recognized on the Sonoran Arts League website.
  • Winning artist will be featured at the Wine Label Unveiling Ceremony on Wednesday, September 15th.
 
Design:
A professional designer will incorporate the winning image into the label.  It may be necessary to crop/edit the image for label impact.
 
About the Wine:
The Arizona White Blend 2019 produced and bottled by Arizona Stronghold is a crisp white blend of Malvasia, Chardonnay, and Viogniers. The flavors offer a complex array including melon, orange rind, pear and floral tones.
 
Artist Agreement:
The completed entry form indicates you (“Artist”) agree to:
  • All conditions set forth in this prospectus including but not limited to: the eligibility requirements, contest art guidelines, entry procedures, award and recognition opportunities, and reception sales commission. The signed entry form indicates you (“Artist”) further agree:
  • Sonoran Arts League and Kiwanis of Carefree are not responsible for digital entry files that cannot be opened.
  • Sonoran Arts League and Kiwanis of Carefree retain the rights to disqualify any work they determine to be something other than originally presented.
  • Winning Artist will permit use of the selected work for use by Kiwanis of Carefree and Sonoran Arts League for a sum of $400. Artist retains legal rights to selected work beyond the use outlined in this scope for non-sales based reproduction.
  • All reasonable care and handling will be exercised with each digital art file; however, neither Sonoran Arts League, Kiwanis of Carefree, nor our insurance carriers, will be liable for any loss or damage incurred during the transfer, reproduction, and/or display of said artwork. Such coverage will be the responsibility of the Artist.
  • The winning Artist grants Kiwanis of Carefree a non-revocable license to reproduce the Artwork on labels for private consumption and use of the wine. This license does not extend to commercial wholesale and retail wine sales.
 
  • The winning Artist grants a non-revocable license to Sonoran Arts League and Kiwanis of Carefree to photograph and make reproductions of the Artwork for commercial and non-commercial marketing purposes, including, but not limited to, reproductions used in advertising, brochures, media publicity, social media, digital platforms and informational placards.
  • The Artist represents that he/she has the right to enter into this Agreement and this Agreement does not interfere with or violate the right of any other person or entity; that he/she owns all rights, title, interest and copyright to the Artwork. The Artist represents and warrants further that:
    • A. The Artwork is solely the result of the artistic effort of the Artist;
    • B. The Artwork is unique and original and does not infringe upon any copyright or the rights of any other person or entity;
    • C. The Artist has not sold, assigned, transferred, licensed, granted, encumbered or utilized the Artwork or any element thereof or any copyright related thereto which may affect or impair the rights granted pursuant to this Agreement;
    • D. The Artist has the full power to enter into and perform this Agreement and to make the grant of rights contained in this Agreement.

About: Western Spirit features original works that celebrate the legacy of the American West and all aspects of life, from ranching and rodeo to landscape and wildlife.

Important Dates:
  • Application Deadline: March 29, 2021

  • Install Date: April 5 & 6, 2021
  • Opening Reception Date: TBD pending local COVID-19 restrictions.

Accepted Artwork: Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture, Glass, Fiber, Functional, Digital, Photography, Installation, Jewelry, Mixed Media, and New Genres. Proposals may include multiple disciplines.
 

Call Fees:
  • $30 with 2 volunteer hours* for up to 5 images submitted.
  • $80 with no volunteer hours for up to 5 images submitted.
 *Volunteer hours must be completed in the 2021 calendar year with the Sonoran Arts League or be bought out at a rate of $25/hour.
 

Commission: The Sonoran Arts League retains a 25% commission on all exhibition sales.
 

Sales: The Sonoran Arts League will make payment of the sale price less the commission (25%) of all sold artwork directly to the artist. If work is purchased by credit card, credit card processing fees will be deducted from the payment to the artist. Checks will be available 10 days following the close of the show.
 
With the sale of work, the artist is encouraged to bring in new artwork as approved by the League office as replacement for the sold piece.
 

Display Requirements: Art must be in gallery ready condition and each piece must be well labeled on the back or bottom.
  • Gallery Ready works include D-rings or screw eyes and wire for paintings.
  • Pieces with saw-tooth hangers will not accepted.
  • No filament fishing line is acceptable, all mounting systems must be strong enough to support the weight of the artwork.
  • For 2D artwork on canvases, artwork must be gallery wrapped or framed.  
  • For wall-mounted sculpture, if you require a system other than a standard picture hanger, the artist must provide the hanging system and must either mount the piece and/or supervise the hanging process.  
 

Selected Works: Artists selected for an exhibition will be given sufficient time to prepare their work and make drop off/delivery arrangements prior to the exhibit date. There is no maximum or minimum number of artists.
 
All work must be original, unsold work, & the artist must own the sole copyright to art.
 
Once your artwork is accepted there will be no substitutions and your work must remain in the Center for the Arts through the end of the show or until it sells.

Free Youth Art Workshop: Everything Animals

Instructor: Robin Ray

For Students in Grades 3 - 8.

Create artwork inspired by your favorite animal.  This workshop based on warm-up drawing and painting exercises that will spark your creative expression. You choose the animal and the supplies you want to use.   You will leave with an expressive animal portrait done in your unique style.
All materials provided.

This workshop is presented free to the community through the generous support of Kiwanis of Carefree.
