Who Juries the Work?

Artwork submitted to the Jury Process will be evaluated by a three-juror panel of accomplished art professionals not associated with the League, who have expertise in the class of work being juried. Jurors’ identities remain anonymous.

Criteria for Evaluation

Jurors evaluate whether the submitted pieces rise to the level of a consistent and professional body of work, based on the following criteria:
  • Composition / design
  • Originality / creativity
  • Masterful technique
  • Color/harmony
  • Tonal contrast
  • Values and color, hues
  • Anatomy (if applicable)
  • Edge treatment
  • Linear perspective
  • Relationship between foreground / background
  • Framing and presentation
  • Positive / negative space

Keep in Mind:

Jurors evaluate against set criteria but their decisions are, to some extent, subjective. ? Artwork is not professionally hung in a gallery style for the Jury Process. Rather, it is leaned up against a wall or chairs or placed on a table. ? Jurors will be able to consider a specific criterion as “N/A” if it does not apply to the work being judged.
