Drawing is a skill that can be learned like any other. There is a simple explanation for why most people struggle to create realistic drawings: we stopped practicing the skill of drawing, or rather the skill of perceiving things, when we were kids. To see what impact perceiving things differently can have, try drawing something upside down — you will be surprised by the results! The trick is to confuse the left side of your brain by giving it a task it can’t handle: to draw something it cannot easily recognize.

The Sonoran Arts League is proud to offer a Veteran Art Program to our military community, both active and retired, including free art classes, workshops, and open studio time, bridging the United States Armed Forces and the arts community by bringing the arts and art education to veterans and military.

Free for Veterans and Active Duty Service Members.
Guests and Spouses are invited to join pending available space for $12.

Mixed Media Paper Collage

Instructor: Nancy Breiman

Free art workshop for students in grades 3-8.

Create your own 8” x 10” mixed media paper collage on a canvas board. You’ll have your choice of “Jumping in the Ocean” or “Going on Safari”. Bring your imagination and creativity and leave with your magical creation, ready to frame. In this workshop we'll use stickers, scrapbook paper, mulberry paper, and mod podge.  You’ll create a fun, layered finished painting by layering torn paper and images to create your imaginary world. All materials needed will be supplied.

There will be no sharp tools used. It is suggested you wear an apron or big t-shirt to protect clothes, although all the materials we’ll use are removable in the wash.

This workshop is presented free to the community through the generous support of Kiwanis of Carefree.
