About: The fifth annual Small Works Show is a Juried Fine Art Show presented by the Sonoran Arts League featuring art measuring 12" or smaller.

Two Dimensional Entries: 144 square inches (image size), for example, 12" x 12". Frames and matting are not included in the 144 square inches and are limited to 6″ wide per side.

Three Dimensional Entries: Must fit within a 12″ x 12″ x 12″ cube. 

All submissions are processed online, to submit scroll to the bottom of this page and click 'Register for this Event'. If you need assistance submitting your artwork to be juried, please contact the Sonoran Arts League office at 480-575-6624.     
 

Important Dates:
  • Application Deadline:January 24, 2022
  • Jury Date: January 25, 2022
  • Artist Notification Date: January 27, 2022
  • Drop Off Date: February 1, 2022
  • Install Date: February 1, 2022
  • Reception Date: February 4, 2021 4pm-7pm

Accepted Artwork:  This exhibit is open to all mediums. 
 

Call Fees:
  • $30 with 2 volunteer hours* for up to 5 pieces of work submitted.
  • $80 with no volunteer hours for up to 5 pieces of work submitted.
 *Volunteer hours incurred for this exhibit must be completed in the 2022 calendar year or be bought out at a rate of $25/hour.


Commission: The Sonoran Arts League retains a 25% commission on all exhibition sales.
 

Sales: The Sonoran Arts League will make payment of the sale price less the commission (25%) of all sold artwork directly to the artist. If work is purchased by credit card, credit card processing fees will be deducted from the payment to the artist. Checks will be available 10 days following the close of the show.
 
With the sale of work, the artist is encouraged to bring in new artwork as approved by the League office as replacement for the sold piece.
 

Display Requirements: Art must be in gallery ready condition and each piece must be well labeled.
  • Pieces with saw-tooth hangers will not accepted.
  • No filament fishing line is acceptable, all mounting systems must be strong enough to support the weight of the artwork.
  • For wall-mounted sculpture, if you require a system other than a standard picture hanger, the artist must provide the hanging system and must either mount the piece and/or supervise the hanging process.  
 
Selected Works: Artists selected for an exhibition will be given sufficient time to prepare their work and make drop off/delivery arrangements prior to the exhibit date. There is no maximum or minimum number of artists.
 
All work must be original, unsold work, & the artist must own the sole copyright to art.
 
Once your artwork is accepted there will be no substitutions and your work must remain in the Center for the Arts through the end of the show or until it sells.

Easy DIY project that will have your friends thinking you’re a Pro! Come join me to learn how to create a beautiful paper collage painting on canvas. After attending this workshop, you will be able to create your own paper collage projects at home. With wrapping paper, tissue paper, a printer and a few inexpensive art materials you can start a new creative hobby at home. You will leave the workshop with a finished painting you can be proud of. No artistic skills are needed and all supplies are provided.

Class Fee: $45
Materials Fee: $15 (to be paid directly to the instructor) 

Skill Level: Beginner, Intermediate

Age Limit: Adult Only (must be 18+)

This 2 session class is designed for adults that have attended an Intro to Ceramics workshop at the Sonoran Arts League or who have prior experience with ceramics. Students will learn advanced handbuilding techniques.
 

 

Instructor: Robin Ray

 

2 Week Series - Class Dates:

  • December 10, 2021 - 9:00am to 4pm (with a 1 hour break for lunch)
  • December 17, 2021 - 9:00am to 4pm (with a 1 hour break for lunch)
 
  • Registration includes:
  • Weekly live lessons
  • Hands on instructor support
  • Ceramics materials provided at the Studio (clay, tools, wareboards, plastic, underglazes)
  • 2 rounds of firing
  • Glazes

Free Art Workshop for Students in Grades 3 - 8.

Pottery Painting

Instructor: TBD

Painting your own ceramic piece is a fun and creative activity for all ages. Participants will select a bisque fired ceramic piece and use a variety of glazes and texture materials to paint their own pieces. Following the Glazing workshop the pieces will be kiln fired and will be available for pickup at the Sonoran Arts League - Center for the Arts the following week. 

This workshop is presented free to the community through the generous support of Kiwanis of Carefree.

REGISTRATION NOT REQUIRED. Sonoran Arts League Members will receive a meeting agenda and Zoom link via email one week prior to the meeting date.

Each month the Sonoran Arts League brings together its members to discuss upcoming events, current arts trends and news from the organization. League membership meetings are also key opportunities for members to network amongst each other, develop new relationships, and stay up to date on all things Sonoran Arts League. Each meeting features a live artist demo following the business portion of the meeting.

Board members will work to continue to build strong partnerships and connections that benefit the Sonoran Arts League members and the surrounding community.

The Desert Foothills Gallery, located at 38443 N Schoolhouse Rd., Cave Creek, Arizona will be the site of the Non-Objective/Abstract Art Show exhibiting works by members of The Sonoran Arts League. The exhibit will run from January 20, 2022 to March 17, 2022.

Eligibility: Open to all Sonoran Arts League members.

Key Dates: Note: Please be sure you can commit to these dates or have someone who can act on your behalf when you apply.

  • Submission Timeframe: December 22, 2021 to January 13, 2022
  • Notice of Acceptance (via email):  Monday, January 17, 2022
  • Artwork Delivery Date: Thursday, January20, 2022, between 9:30am and 10:30am at the Desert Foothills Gallery inside the Desert Foothills Library. Note: If your artwork is not delivered by 10:30am, when we start curating the show, it will not be included in the show.
  • Show Dates: January 20, 2022 to March 17, 2022
  • Artist Reception: Saturday, February 26, 2022 from 4:00pm to 5:30pm
  • Presentation with Q & A: Thursday, March 3, 2022 from 4:00pm to 5:30pm
  • Pick Up Unsold Artwork: Thursday, March 17, 2022 from 9:15am to 10:15am at the Desert Foothills Gallery
