The mission of the Hidden In The Hills Artist Studio Tour is to provide an opportunity for the public to visit the workspaces of dedicated artists in the Sonoran Foothills, to learn about the artist's methodology and process and to purchase directly from them in a friendly, engaging atmosphere that showcases quality art.

  • The Hidden in the Hills Artist Studio Tour includes approximately 50,000 studio visits and contributes to the sale of over $1,000,000 in art over 6 days.

This 4-week class is designed for adults of beginner and intermediate experience levels. Students will learn handbuilding techniques tailored to their experience level and surface treatments to works created.

Sonoran Arts League Youth Art Summer Camps offer the unique opportunity for the young artist to explore new mediums, experience different materials, and stretch the bounds of their creativity. Sessions will feature age-appropriate instruction and hands-on learning.
 
Summer Camp will feature a variety of mediums from ceramic painting, clay building, drawing, painting, and mixed media.

Letting your brushes dance and learning how to create singing colors is the key to beautiful watercolor. Many people want to paint loosely and freely, because of the beautiful effects it create, but also for the creative freedom and joy of the process.
 

4 Week Series - Class Dates:

  • June 24, 2021 - 1:00pm to 4:00pm
  • July 1, 2021 - 1:00pm to 4:00pm
  • July 8, 2021 - 1:00pm to 4:00pm
  • July 15, 2021 - 1:00pm to 4:00pm

 
In these classes you will be given a number of lessons & tips that will help you paint with more freedom & confidence. Subject matter will range from still life to landscape, to (who knows!)

Fundamentals will include Color Relationships, Value Contrast & Good Design.

*This class series can be taken stand alone or followed up with a second session scheduled to begin June 24th. 


Class Fee: $180 (materials not included)

Skill Level: Intermediate, Advanced  *These classes are for all levels of watercolor painters with some previous experience. Absolute beginners are asked to contact the instructor: yvonnejoyner@cox.net.

Using traditional watercolor techniques, participants will learn how to paint the rocky landscape, desert plants and expansive skies of Arizona.  Working from provided reference images, or your own, learn to capture the essence of the Sonoran desert.  

The Sonoran Arts League is proud to offer a Veteran Art Program to our military community, both active and retired, including free art classes, workshops, and open studio time, bridging the United States Armed Forces and the arts community by bringing the arts and art education to veterans and military.

Free for Veterans and Active Duty Service Members.
Guests and Spouses are invited to join pending available space for $12.

Come create a sun catcher to hand in your widow.  No glass cutting skills are required for this class but can be used if desired.  You will learn how to use pieces of glass to create bright designs then can then be hung in a window or on a wall. These also make wonderful gifts or can be used as ornament for trees.  Each student will make up to 6 sun catchers.

This workshop will allow participants to explore different methods of selecting color combinations using the color wheel. Topics will include the concepts of hue, value, and intensity. Participants will then go through a series of exercises to apply these principles and experiment with different color relationships.

The July 2021 Board of Directors Working Session will be held in lieu of a formal meeting, No agenda will be established and there will not be any formal motions entertained or votes taken. Reports on the status of the Sonoran Arts League will be presented for infomration-sharing only.

In this class the student will be creating their own uniquely designed plate. Using a selection of glass items (stringers, noodles,frits pebbles and premade kits) each student will create their own exciting design. This is your chance to have fun designing a one-of-a-kind plate.Some cutting skills may be learned. Plates will be 8 x 8" and will go through the kiln twice, once to fuse the elements together and once to slump into a plate mold.

About: Your passport to the world through art! “The Road Less Traveled” offers the opportunity to explore the world both near and far.


All submissions are processed online, to submit scroll to the bottom of this page and click 'Register for this Event'. If you need assistance submitting your artwork to be juried, please contact the Sonoran Arts League office at 480-575-6624.     
 

Important Dates:
  • Application Deadline: July 7, 2021
  • Jury Date: July 9, 2021
  • Artist Notification Date: July 13, 2021
  • Drop Off Date: July 19, 2021
  • Install Date: July 20, 2021
  • Reception Date: August 6, 2021 4pm-7pm
  • Exhibition Run Dates: July 23 - September 5, 2021
  • Artwork Pickup: September 7, 2021

 
Accepted Artwork: Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture, Glass, Fiber, Functional, Jewelry, Digital, Photography, Installation, Jewelry, Mixed Media, and New Genres. Proposals may include multiple disciplines.
 

Call Fees:
  • $30 with 2 volunteer hours* for up to 5 images submitted (10 images for jewelers).
  • $80 with no volunteer hours for up to 5 images submitted (10 images for jewelers).
 *Volunteer hours must be completed in the 2021 calendar year with the Sonoran Arts League or be bought out at a rate of $25/hour.
 

Commission: The Sonoran Arts League retains a 25% commission on all exhibition sales.
 

Sales: The Sonoran Arts League will make payment of the sale price less the commission (25%) of all sold artwork directly to the artist. If work is purchased by credit card, credit card processing fees will be deducted from the payment to the artist. Checks will be available 10 days following the close of the show.
 
With the sale of work, the artist is encouraged to bring in new artwork as approved by the League office as replacement for the sold piece.
 

Display Requirements: Art must be in gallery ready condition and each piece must be well labeled on the back or bottom.
  • Gallery Ready works include D-rings or screw eyes and wire for paintings.
  • Pieces with saw-tooth hangers will not accepted.
  • No filament fishing line is acceptable, all mounting systems must be strong enough to support the weight of the artwork.
  • For 2D artwork on canvases, artwork must be gallery wrapped or framed.  
  • For wall-mounted sculpture, if you require a system other than a standard picture hanger, the artist must provide the hanging system and must either mount the piece and/or supervise the hanging process.  
 

Selected Works: Artists selected for an exhibition will be given sufficient time to prepare their work and make drop off/delivery arrangements prior to the exhibit date. There is no maximum or minimum number of artists.
 
All work must be original, unsold work, & the artist must own the sole copyright to art.
 
Once your artwork is accepted there will be no substitutions and your work must remain in the Center for the Arts through the end of the show or until it sells.
