I am a contemporary/abstract representational painter and sculptor, pet portraitist and ornamentor who works with acrylics, oils, pencil, pastels, concrete, metal, glass, mixed media and found discarded/disposable objects to create my large canvases, ornaments and sculptures. I received my Masters of Fine Arts from the University of California Berkeley.
After living in the San Francisco Bay area for 25 years I relocated to Omaha, Nebraska where I resided for 14 years. I have lived in the Desert Hills area of North Valley, Phoenix where my art studio is also maintained, for the past 6 years.
My work is very whimsical, sometimes satirically funny and many times of a serious nature. I am influenced by everything around me with greater influences of the southwest, my Catholic upbringing, and Indian spirituality. I consider myself a storyteller; instead of portraying just an image the piece always tells a story.
Artists that have influenced me throughout my lifetime include Joseph Albers, Henry Moore, Picasso, Mark Rothko, the minimalists, and various west coast artists from the 1970’s and early 80’s: Ray Saunders, Joan Brown, David Simpson, Richard Diebenkorn, Tom Holland, and Roy Deforest. I have exhibited in California, Nebraska, and Prescott, Arizona.
My ornaments are currently sold in the Phoenis area as well as nationally. Other works can be found in private collections in the Pacific Northwest; Arizona; Northern and Southern California; New York City; Dallas, Texas; South Dakota; Denver, Colorado and Omaha, Nebraska.
