Joye's Art
Joye Melby

A native Midwesterner, Joye Melby holds a bachelor's degree in Art Education from the University of North Dakota and earned her master's degree in Art Education from Western Washington university. She is a national Board Certified Teacher.
Joye works from her studios in Peoria, AZ and Mill Creek, WA. She teaches classes in drawing and painting for adult learners.
Joye's early work was in fabric design creating batiks that were featured in galleries from Lincoln City, OR to LaConner, WA. She was a member of several co-op galleries including the Art Stall Gallery at Seattle's Pike Place Market and her work has been featured in many galleries, including the Lynnwood Convention Center Gallery and the Schack Art Center in Everett,WA. Joye is currently a member of the Sonoran Art League and the Sedona Arts Center.
Joye's master thesis show featured oil painting based on her love of family history and understanding one's development through that history. Her love of color is evident in those works and in her more recent Ukiyo-e series featured at the Schack Art Center in 2013.
In 1990 Joye returned to the high school classroom where she established herself as an award-winning educator whose students won many prestigious awards in regional and national shows. She was a runner-up for Washington State Teacher of the year in 1999, was named Washington Art Educator of the Year in 2004 and received the Washington Art Educator's Tribute Award in 2012. In 2011, she studied under a T.I.C.A. grant at the School of the Art institute of Chicago.
