The inspirations for Mary Boehms watercolor paintings are drawn from her love of travel and nature. Her interest in architectural details and the strong expressions of color and texture in her paintings were honed during her years in the School of Design, Architecture and Art at the University of Cincinnati, where she received her BS degree in Interior Design in 1967. Her love of nature began as a child while taking walks with her Aunt to pick wildflowers and the feeling of peace she experienced when communing with nature in the woods on her familys farm. The depth and breadth of Marys life experiences and travel are apparent in her paintingsand, the meticulous details in her paintings instill in the viewer a sense of a personal relationship with Marys artistic expressions.
Since moving to Arizona in 1997, Marys painting has evolved to include the luminous colors of springtime in the desert, the depth of the colors in the mountains and the brilliant colors of Arizonas spectacular sunsets and blue skies. How Arizonas pure, desert light plays upon the natural landscape, and how light and shadow play upon architectural elements, become a dance that brings life to her paintings. The peace and joy that Mary experiences in travel and nature is ever present in her paintings.
Mary exhibits her paintings at the annual Hidden in the Hills Studio Tour as well as many arts and crafts shows in Arizona. Her body of work includes commissioned paintings based upon photographs of her clients own travels. Marys work is included in the private collections of clients in Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, Ohio, Michigan, Vermont, New Hampshire, Utah, Washington, Georgia and Canada.
