Artist Statement

I create artistic images that bring brightness, joy and fun into my world. I enjoy experimenting with color, textures and paint. I want to surprise the viewer and take them on a visual journey.

To begin, I draw out the image. From there, I decide on the main color of the object based on where it takes my imagination. I use acrylic paint, ink and water within each section of the drawing. It is a pouring technique that I have developed over many years, and have mastered. The water goes down first then I add ink, and acrylic, and with a paint brush I guide the paint to where I want it to go. I pick up the canvas and tilt it in many directions until I am satisfied with the direction and I lay it down horizontally to dry. Each section is done this way. Lastly I paint the focal point and the background.

Presently, I am painting animals, landscapes and tarot cards. When I started painting I was creating flowers and images of the ocean because I was living in New Zealand. Since I had been living in the Arizona desert for so long, moving to New Zealand changed my perspective and added a whole new color spectrum to my life. Now while working on tarot cards I am learning about symbolism and the meaning of different subjects and objects. Because of the tarot cards I am combining all that I have learned as a professional artist through out the years.
