My dream, while still in high school in Colorado, was to be a fashion illustrator. However, art school was not in my future. I moved to the Seattle area, worked for 20+ years, went to Central Washington University majoring in accounting and finance. Eventually, my senior, my senior management role in the healthcare industry took me to New Mexico, then Arizona a few years later.
Still working diligently in accounting, I longed to revitalize my creative spirit. For some crazy reason, bead-making piqued my curiosity, and I took my first class at Cave Creek Glassworks in 2005. I was absolutely hooked!
I took many more classes from Marcia Kmack (Cave Creek Glassworks), and we developed a fabulous friendship. I have been able to take classes from several other nationally known lampworkers helping to expand my skills. However, I have learned the most important thing for a lampworker is to practice. The more time I am able to spend behind my torch, the more my skills improve.
I am still in the accounting/finance world. It makes my head and spirit very tired. Working at my torch and creating in glass, makes my spirit strong.
Come visit the Bead Mission. Watching glass melt might make your spirit strong as well.
