I am fascinated by the patterns and colors that are part of our daily lives. I hope to portray this in my landscapes – whether they are man made or by nature, or in portraits – in skin tones, shadows or form. It is this an abstract realism that catches me.
For landscapes, I sketch and do quick plein air paintings on site. I complete a larger painting in the studio. This way, I can contain my first response to my work. I can eliminate, exaggerate or improve the work and not get caught up in true realistic detail.
