Juried member designation is awarded to those artists who have submitted a body of work that has been deemed by a panel of independent art professionals to meet an elevated standard of excellence based on criteria established by the league. The opportunity for an artist to seek juried status is offered annually and includes submission of 2-D and 3-D art, as well as jewelry.
Why become a Juried Member?
Juried Member Designation is awarded to Sonoran Arts League artists who have met our high standards of artistic excellence. This jury designation is recognized with the letter “J” next to the artist’s name in various publications, including the “Hidden in The Hills” Directory, booklets for Pop-Up Shows and Exhibitions, and on the Sonoran Arts League website.

Who Juries the Work?
Artwork submitted to the Jury Process will be evaluated by a three-juror panel of accomplished art professionals not associated with the League, who have expertise in the class of work being juried. Jurors’ identities remain anonymous.
Criteria for Evaluation
Jurors evaluate whether the submitted pieces rise to the level of a consistent and professional body of work, based on the following criteria:
Composition / design
Originality / creativity
Masterful technique
Color/harmony
Tonal contrast
Values and color, hues
Anatomy (if applicable)
Edge treatment
Linear perspective
Relationship between foreground / background
Framing and presentation
Positive / negative space
Keep in Mind:
Jurors evaluate against set criteria but their decisions are, to some extent, subjective. Artwork is not professionally hung in a gallery style for the Jury Process. Rather, it is leaned up against a wall or chairs or placed on a table. Jurors will be able to consider a specific criterion as “N/A” if it does not apply to the work being judged.
